Regional Development Project Roadmovie 2009

Come and watch films – you’ll find us at your local cinema!

If you live in Boden, Jokkmokk, Kiruna, Piteå, Älvsbyn, Överkalix or Övertorneå – then you have a chance to see especially interesting films. Roadmovie 2009 is travelling around the municipalities of Norrbotten showing films. You can now watch quality films at your local cinema, sometimes free of charge, at other times at a small charge. We often hold joint discussions after the screening. The films could touch on such subjects as gender issues in Norrbotten, they may be thought-provoking films about democracy or films that deal with young sexuality and the process of maturing into adulthood. Once in a while there will also be première screenings, followed by a meeting with the filmmakers.

Follow Filmpool Nord’s programme of film screenings on our home page. It can be found here. We welcome you to meet us in the cinema darkness!

About the project

Roadmovie 2009 is a project where tailor-made thematic film packages are shown in collaboration with local cinemas in Norrbotten. The film packages cover issues that touch mankind, as well as subjects of current interest to the particular municipality. The themes can be, for instance, gender related, about young sexuality, integration, young and old, democracy or rural living. Prior to almost every film screening, literature is distributed as a basis for debate. Screenings will take place in Boden, Jokkmokk, Kiruna, Piteå, Älvsbyn, Överkalix and Övertorneå. The purpose of the project is to develop local cinema as a cultural and democratic meeting ground. We also plan to hold film screenings in the long-term inpatient unit in Övertorneå: we are coming to those who can no longer go to the cinema.

The aim of the project is in seven municipalities to screen at least twenty films, followed by discussions, and to map out a basis for future collaboration after this project.  Participation in this project is free of charge for the individual cinemas and municipalities. We will collaborate with interested and affected parties in the respective districts, such as educational associations, societies, schools, local councillors and boards. The project will be ongoing from 13 August to 31 December 2009.

Roadmovie 2009 is a collaborative initiative between Filmpool Nord and Folkets Hus and Folkets Park in the regions of Norrbotten and Västerbotten, with Filmpool Nord as head of the operation. The project is funded by the Swedish Film Institute.
